Toyota Corolla (14 - on)
Review
Ever since its introduction all those years ago in 1966, the Toyota Corolla has evolved into one of the most popular, biggest selling cars around. As of July 2013 there were officially 40,000,000 Corollas sold worldwide, which is a hugely impressive 850,000+ each year for 47 years. Granted the “Corolla DNA” has been altered a bit along the way, like the transition from a rear-wheel drive to a front-wheel drive and a completely unrelated chassis, but the fundamentals remain the same. The latest generation sees some changes made to its appearance, such as a newly designed grille and tailgate, a longer and lower body, and a more definite character line. Despite being designed as a “World Car” the Corolla is pretty much instantly recognisable now. World cars are basically designed to please all types of drivers, which can sometimes result in boring looking cars. There are three spec levels to choose from; Aura, Luna and Terra. Each one offers a generous helping of the latest in-car technology with some interesting extras too. In terms of driving, the Corolla behaves just as you would expect. It's assured and easy to handle, with light steering and the perfect driving position. It doesn't disappoint when it comes to practicality either. The bigger cabin means more room for passengers, and the oddly shaped tailgate covers a decent sized boot.
